A fight

When I went to the children's house to pick my 6-year-old son up yesterday evening, I saw three boys who were doing "Seiza" (sitting up on their heels) in teacher's room.

And a boy who is my son's friend was crying next to them.

Teachers were telling them something, but I couldn't hear what they were talking.

I guessed that they fought or they bullied him and teachers were scolding them.

His mother was going to take him to his home, then a teacher told three boys,

"Don't you have anything to tell him? He is going home!"

They said with playing dumb,

"I am sorry."

"Maybe you don't think "I am sorry!"

The teacher got angry with them.

They looked like "why do we need to be scolded by teachers?"

I thought that teachers were very hard to settle down the fight between children.

On our way home, I asked my son about the happening.

He said,

"I don't know. I didn't see that. I was playing with blocks and reading a comic."

"Does the happening like today occur so often at the children's house?"

"Yeah, often."

He answered so as if it didn't have anything at all to do with him.

This is my impression, I think children who need to stay at the children's house after school tend to be tough and strong because most of them have been left in the nursery school since they were very young, so they get used to survive in such an enviroment without their parents.

My son also sometimes fights with other children and he is involved other children's fight.

But I belive that he will learn something from the communal living.

I hope he will be able to find how to survive in the society.

Nippon Maru

My children and I went to Nagoya port to see the Nippon Maru", which is one of the largest sailing ship in the world.

It is the sailing ship used for training of students from the university of Marine science, technology maritime polytechnical schools, and so on.

The ship is called "Swan of the Pacific Ocean" because of its size and beauty.

The ship is 110 meters high and its mast extends up to 50 meters.

There were a lot of people there to see the students unfurling the sail.

In fact, this was the second time to see Nippon Maru.

I saw it with my husband about 10 years ago.

I was so impressed with the beauty of the ship.

I read the article in the newspaper that Nippon Maru was at Nagoya port now, so I wanted my children to see it.

My children were so surprised because the ship was so big and it was the first time to see the sail ship.

We also visited the ship named "Fuji", which was used by Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition.

Near the ship, there stand the statues of Taro and Jiro, two dogs who survived the expedition.

They appeared in the true-to-life movie, "Antarctica", Japanese film in 1983.

The orange and white ship in the photo is Fuji.

I visited here when I was an elementary school, so it reminded me of my childhood.

Let's have a drink!

When my children and I came home from my 6-year-old son's Karate lesson around 8:30pm, my husband was already home.

It was really unusual.

He has been very busy recently, and he always comes home in midnight.

My children were so glad to see him.

Since it was the first time for my son to show his father him wearing Karate uniform, he showed off his kicking and punching skills.

I told my husband,

"Let's have a drink!"

I drink alcohol only when I am with him.

Originaly I like alcohol, but not so much.

After I had two children, I didn't have any opportunity to drink for about two to three years.

So now I get drunk easily after I drink two or three cups of alcohol.

But I don't want to drink when he is not at home because if I get drunk, I will not be able to take care of my children.

So the day when he is at home on weekend is the best time for me to drink.

We had white wine together last night.

But his favorite is Shochu made from sweet potato.

Shochu is a Japanese distilled beverage.

It is made from barley, sweet potatoes, rice, buckwheat, and so on.

His hometown is one of the famous producing area of Shochu.

The two potteries in upper photo are called "Shochu server", which are made in my hometown.

My hometown is famous for its pottery.

If we keep Shochu in the server, the taste will become milder.

The left green bottle shochu is called "Maou", it is very popular shochu.

He got it from his relatives.

He often enjoys having Shochu.

One nice story

My 6-year-old son takes his homework from school every day.

Recently, he needs to practise writing Kanji, practise the addition which answer is over 10, and reading aroud the story from their Japanese text book.

The story which was in his Japanese textbook was very good, so I read him.

The story goes like this,

There was a boy.

His family had a dog, and they loved him very much.

But they didn't tell him "I love you" because they thought he already knew enough that they loved him.

The dog was getting older, and he was losing his energy little by little.

The boy was so worried about him.

They went to bed together every day, but he couldn't walk anymore.

So the boy brought him to his room.

Before they slept, the boy told the dog "I love you" every day.

He looked happy.

One day, the dog was dead when the boy woke up in the morning.

His parents, brother and sister were so sad and cried for him, but they didn't tell him " I love you" though they loved him.

The boy was also sad, but he did not feel so sad though because he told his dog "I love you" every day.

I was so moved by the story.

The stories for children are sometimes not only for children but also for adults.

I learned something from the story.

Japanese people sometimes make a point of non-verbal communication.

We tend to think that we can let someone, especially close person, know our feeling without words.

But I thought it is important to tell our feeling to someone.

When we went to bed, I told my children,

"I love you!"

They also told me

"I love you too, mom!"

Esoteric love letter

I told my children after we finished dinner yesterday,

"Let's get started! If I finish housework early, I can have time to study English!"

Then my 6-year-old son started doing his homework, and my 5-year-old daughter started writing Hiragana ( a kind of the Japanese letters).

I thought that she is very unique because she used a green pencil for her practise.

She gave me a letter which she wrote at the nursery school yesterday.

It was like a love letter to me, but it was very esoterice like a cryptogram and difficult to read though I am a Japanese.

She wrote like this,

"Dear dad and mom. I love both of you very much. But I love mom the most. I love love love love love you the most!!"

There were a lot of mistakes in her letter, but I didn't tell her about it.

I only said,

"Thank you! I am very happy to read your letter. You did a great job!"

She seemed to be satisfied to hear my words.

After we took a bath, my daughter started reading a picture book written in a plain Japanese.

I was so surprised that she could read it easily.

"When could you read the book?"

I asked her.

"I can read a book!"

She answered.

Actually, I have not taught Hiragana and Katakana to her before.

But she learned them by herself, and sometimes her brother taught her strictly.

I realized that children can remember what they are interested in easily.

I think it is important for parents to entice children to have interet to something.

Ninjya

My children and I joined in the field trip held by the children's association yesterday.

We went to the park where they have interactive facilities.

We can experience paid activities like making cookies, pizza, sausage, and so on.

We tried making cookies, had lunch together.

After that, we could have a free time, so my children went to the kids area and enjoyed playing with the playground equipments.

While we were in collective action, my 6-year-old son often tried to climb up something like a tree, a fence, or a streetlight.

Recently he is into climbing up to the high places.

He likes a pole climbing equipment for kids, and he can climb up using only upper body's strengh.

Yesterday, he climbed up the gate of the entrance, trees, streetlights, and fence at our meeting time.

One of the girl found him climbing and she said to me,

"He is in danger!"

Several boys and girls in the children's association went to my son.

I was talking with a member of the associaion.

I found my son was sitting on the fence, and there was a pond under his feet.

"Get down from there! It's dangerous!"

I dragged him down from the fense.

I knew why he climbed up.

He just wanted everyone's attention.

I told him many times,

"Don't climb up where it is not allowed! "

He often practises climbing up at home.

He climbs between the walls like this.

He said,

"My training is like Ninjya. I want to be Ninjya!"

I can't keep my eyes off of him for a while.

The duty of serving the school lunch

After we came back home, my 6-year-old son told me,

"I won the milk Rock-paper-scissors again!"

"What's that?"

I asked him.

"Children who want to have more milk gather and we decide who can get it by Rock-paper-scissors at lunch time."

"So you had two bottles of milk today!"

"Yeah. The milk of school lunch is yummy!"

He answered.

According to my son, children in the same class are divided into four groups, and they have a duty of serving the school lunch once a month.

The school lend white cooking wears and hats to students.

Children who are on duty serve on the plate or bowl, bring them to another students, clean the table and so on.

Their teacher give their each tasks.

While they are serving, another students are waiting while reading a book.

When I was 3-6 years old, I went to the nursery school.

Since I was a picky eater, I had a lot of food which I didn't want to eat.

But teacher didn't allow that I left some food, so I had to eat up all of school lunch.

So I often had lunch weeping during lunch looking at another chidren who already finished lunch and were playing outside the school.

But now, children can reduce their food if they start to eat.

And if they could not eat up though they did their best, they can leave their food.

Recently the children who have food allergy are increasing, so teachers can't force to make children eat up lunch.

I really think that times have changed.
