The washing machine doesn't work

I was woken up by the error sound from the washing machine at 3am yesterday.

I went to check the reason of the error, the washing machine stopped during rinsing, and I had not ever seen the error code before.

I turned it off and pull out the plug, then plugged it and turned it on and tried it again.
But it stopped at the same step.

I had to wring all laundry, it was really a hard work.

I thought I can't do this in my working day.

I searched the error code on the internet and found that the reason was the drum can't rotate normally.

If we asked the company to fix it, it would need to change to a new drum and it would cost about from 50,000 to 60,000 yen.

But I found the post which said the error might happen again even if the drum was changed.
I woke my husband up and discussed the problem.

We bought it 9 years ago and I use it every day.

It is in summer now and my children need to change clothes often because they sweat a lot.

Fortunately, I had a day off yesterday and it was a sunny day, so we were able to dry our laundry.

But I don't want to bother about the laundry more than this.

We finally decided to purchase a new washing machine.

Since he went to work, I went to the appliance store with my children.

Since we had already decided which one we buy, I asked the salesperson whether they could deliver it to our house during yesterday.

He answered they could deliver it today, so I decided to buy it.

I was relieved that it will come to our house today's evening.

I was sleepy because I had to deal with the problem since 3am!

  1. Hello Kumi-san,

Washing machine malfunctions are always very inconvenient to have to deal with, especially when you have work to deal with as well. Still at least it did not flood the room out that it was in. 9 years is a very good length of time to use the same washing machine. It must have been a very well made machine. Here is hoping that your new washing machine gives as good service and lasts as long if not longer than the one it replaces.

Here is a list of some of the other issues found in the rest of the post:

    Part 1:

    This line:
I went to check the reason of the error, the washing machine stopped during rinsing, and I had not ever seen the error code before.

    Should be:
I went to check the reason for the error, the washing machine stopped during rinsing, and I had not ever seen the error code before.

    This line:
I turned it off and pull out the plug, then plugged it and turned it on and tried it again.

    Should be:
I turned it off and pulled out the plug, then plugged it in again and turned it on and tried again.

Reason: A few word changes to make sentence sound more natural. Also changed pull to pulled as this sounds more natural in this sentence and it is something you did in the past.

    This line:
I had to wring all laundry, it was really a hard work.

    Should be:
I had to wring out all laundry, it was really a hard work.

Reason: Added filler word "out" as "wring out" is a common was to say that you twisted the clothes to squeeze out excess water. Wring is also right but slightly less specific.

    This line:
I thought I can't do this in my working day.

    Should be:
I thought I can't do this as I have to be at work.

Reason: Not entirely sure how to interpret you sentence. I am assuming you dont have time to wring out the clothes as you need to be at work?

    This line:
I searched the error code on the internet and found that the reason was the drum can't rotate normally.

  2. Part 2:

    This line:
If we asked the company to fix it, it would need to change to a new drum and it would cost about from 50,000 to 60,000 yen.

    Should be:
If we asked the company to fix it, the drum would need to be replaced and it would cost about 50,000 to 60,000 yen.

Reason: Removed some unneeded words and made some word order changes to make the sentence sound more natural. Also just a suggestion but since you want to improve your English I would recommend when you do money values in yen to also indicate what the values are in Us Dollars. This would make it easier for readers to determine relative values of things and you also force you to use the correct currency symbol. Although it is very easy to lookup on Google so I leave it just as a suggestion.

    This line:
But I found the post which said the error might happen again even if the drum was changed.

    Should be:
But I found a post which said the error might happen again even if the drum was changed.

Reason: Changed "the" to "a" as this sounds more natural. The best reason I can give for this is that "a" doesn't specifically imply that it is the only post. There could be others but you may not have seen them or there could be other websites which give the same information and so "a" is more appropriate in this case.

    This line:
But I don't want to bother about the laundry more than this.

    Should be:
But I don't want to wring out laundry like this in future.

    This line:
Since we had already decided which one we buy, I asked the salesperson whether they could deliver it to our house during yesterday.

    Should be:
Since we had already decided which one we (would/were going to) buy, yesterday I asked the salesperson whether they could deliver it to our house.

    Or:
Since we had already decided which one we (would/were going to) buy, I asked the salesperson whether they could deliver it to our house.

Reason: Word order changes. Also removed "during" as it is not needed. It is debatable as to whether "yesterday" is needed. As the next sentence makes it clear when you were talking about.

    This line:
I was relieved that it will come to our house today's evening.

    Should be:
I was relieved that it will come to our house this evening.

Reason: In English when you want to indicate the something will happen in the evening of the current day, you almost always use "this evening/by the evening/by tonight/tonight".

    Examples:
I was waiting for the deliveryman to deliver my new washing machine. He said it would be delivered tonight.
I hate having to wait for things to be delivered but at least it will arrive this evening.
By tonight I will have a new washing machine.
Tonight my new washing machine will be delivered.
If my washing machine doesn't arrive (tonight/by tonight) I will have to wait until tomorrow and contact the store.
This evening I will be the proud owner of a new washing machine, if it is delivered on time.

    This line:
I was sleepy because I had to deal with the problem since 3am!

    Should be:
I was sleepy (because I/as I) had been dealing with this problem since 3am!

Reason: Added filler words to make sentence sound more natural and reworded sentence slightly to make it a little more grammatically correct.
