I bought the past question collections and tried it a little yesterday morning.
I was surprised that the vocabularies in the questions were too difficult for me.
I didn't know all vocabularies of the choices of some four-choice question, so I couldn't choose the answer.
I was shocked and lost my confidence which I got from the TOEIC test.
I keenly realized my lack of vocabularies.
I only have a month but a month may be enough.
I am going to concentrate on studying for Eiken for a while, so I will stop writing my blog (but I will write this when I have something important I want to write).
~~~ Some notes of my unknown vocabraries ( examples ) ~~~
Perilous
It is a dangerous adventure, a perilous adventure.
Supreme
the Supreme court
conflicting
conflicting views, conflicting ideas
redeeming
a redeeming quality or characteristic, redeeming feature
imposing
an imposing figure, imposing structure, imposing ceremony
Hello Kumi-san,
ReplyDeleteYou certainly are trying very hard to improve your English. Do not be dispirited by the apparent difficultly of EIKEN, with practice all will become clear.
If it helps at all you can put any difficult issues with EIKEN on your blog and I will see if I can find an answer that would allow you to understand. As I have said previously I am not very good when it comes to explaining grammar rules, but I will try.
I am assuming your already know about the EIKEN website here:
http://www.eiken.or.jp/eiken/en/
It seems to have a lot of information on it. The website seems to have been recently updated.
Also if you are a user of Anki flash card application this deck may be of some use to you (I have not used the deck nor do I know what EIKEN considers correct, so take with caution).
Here is a list of some of the other issues found with the post:
This line:
I was shocked and lost my confidence which (I got/I had gotten) from the TOEIC test.
This line:
I only have a month, but I still have a month.
Reason: You seem to be saying effectively the same phrase, maybe better written as:
I only have a month left to study.
Or:
I only have a month but a month (may/will) be enough.
This line:
I am going to concentrate on studying for Eiken for a while, so I will stop writing my blog (but I will write this when I have something I want to write).
Reason: The part of the sentence (but I will write this when I have something I want to write). Do you mean: (but I will write on the blog when I have something important I want to write).
This line:
~~~ One of the memorandum of my unknown vocabraries ( examples ) ~~~
Would probably be better worded as:
~~~ (Some notes/Some examples) of my unknown vocabularies ( examples ) ~~~
Reason: Memorandum (un-shortened word for memo). In the example you used notes/examples would be more natural.
Question: With regard to your unknown vocabulary: I assume that you know the meaning of the words individually and the problem is using them in a sentence?
If it is individual meaning your are having issues with however here is how I would describe the vocabularies you listed:
Perilous - Risky action, Dangerous action
It is a perilous undertaking to climb a mountain
Supreme - Most important, Most skilled, Most powerful
The most powerful/important court is the Supreme Count
Conflicting - Add odds, contradiction, disagreement
The children could not stop arguing as they had conflicting opinions as to what they should watch on TV.
Redeeming - To correct, to restore trust/faith in someone, a good quality of something/someone, to redeem (a coupon etc/license)
He was a mean man but his one redeeming quality was that he was brave.
He stole from me previously but never has again he tries hard to redeem himself to me
I have a 50% off coupon at home, I must remember to take it to the store and redeem it.
Imposing - Impressive, big, bold, Imposing ones ideas/will on something or someone.
It was a large and imposing building that made everyone inside feel small.
The dictator enjoyed imposing his will on his subordinates.
The painter painted the house bright pink giving it a bold and imposing appearance.
Note: The above are what I would say the meanings are but EIKEN has their own so if mine and EIKEN's conflict go with EIKEN (they will have better understanding of the complex grammar rules of English than me).
This line:
a redeeming quality or charactaristic, redeeming feature
Should be:
a redeeming quality or characteristic, redeeming feature
Reason: Characteristic was spelled incorrectly.
This line:
an imposing figure, inposing structure, imposing ceremony
Should be:
an imposing figure, imposing structure, imposing ceremony
Reason: Imposing was spelled incorrectly.
Hi Terry!
DeleteSorry for my late reply, I would like to have more time to study and write this blog!
I really appriciate your kindness and help.
I finished trying to solve all the questions of Eiken test.
I thought the part 1 (four-choice questions) of the reading test was the most difficult.
The listening test was not so difficult,but I need to practice it more.
Anyway, I will keep up studying.
Thank you so much!
