Incredible fantastic POB ~ Mom takes a day off ~

My husband and I went to Osaka to watch the musical show called Prince of Broadway.

I love watching musicals.

I especially like "the Phantom of the Opera".

When I was a college student, I watched it for the first time in Japan.

It was an electrifying experience for me.

I fell in love with its music, songs, and story.

Since I wanted to watch it again, I worked part-time at the sushi shop and saved money then went to watch the musical again.

I have watched the Phantom of the Opera more than 30 times.

I had been to Toronto to watch it.

Of course I like other musicals like Cats, Beauty and the Beast, Les Miserable, West Side Story...

There are too many!

I have been a fan of Ramin Karimloo since I watched the 25th anniversary DVD.

He played the role of Phantom in the DVD and I thought he was the best Phantom I ever watched.

When I knew he was coming to Japan to perform as Phantom in the musical show called Prince of Broadway, I thought I couldn't miss the rare opportunity and if I missed it, I would surely regret it.

My children and I visited my parents house last Saturday and stayed there overnight.

I asked my parents to take care of them and went to Osaka with my husband yesterday.

It was the first time for us to travel any great distance without our children after we had them.

We met up at Nagoya station and took Shinkansen to Osaka.

It was as if we were back before we got married.

The show was incredible, fantastic, amazing, and wonderful!

I could finally watch Ramin's Phantom.

He sang "the Phantom of the Opera" at the end of the act 1.

"My power over you grows stronger yet"

I have never listened to a singer like Ramin who sings "stronger" raised the interval.

But his part was very short, he only sang until "the Phantom of the Opera is there inside your mind."

"What?  Already? Too short! "

I screamed in my mind.

But I could get absorbed in listening to his beautiful voice sing by "Music of the night".

But the curtain started being closed while he was singing the very last lyrics, "Help me make a music of the night".

I really wanted to listen to the last echo of his voice but I couldn't hear it because the audience started clapping.

"Oh no! Keep quiet! He is still singing!"

It was one of the directions, but I was really disappointed.

But other performers were also extremely talented and attractive.

I was enchanted by Tony Yazbeck's tap dance.

He was an incredible dancer and singer.

"Don't cry for me Argentina" sung by Mariand Torres was extremely persuasive so I listened to her song attentively.

"So What" sung by Nancy Opel was very impressive.

I haven't seen "Cabaret" before but I really enjoyed watching it.

Anyway everybody was so talented and performed extremely well, I was so impressed.

I can't write all my impressions here.

When I watch a musical show, it is as if I were in a completely different world.

Thanks to Prince of Broadway, I had a really great, memorable time.

On my way to my parents house, my husband and I enjoyed chatting together about our impressions of the show.

We usually don't have much time to talk with each other, so it was really a good opportunity for us.

We were able to have a good time, it was like a dream yesterday.

Where is my key?

I walk to my 5-year-old daughter's nursery school with her every morning.

After I came back home from the nursery school yesterday morning, I noticed that my car key wasn't  where it should be.

I always put it above the shoe box in the entrance hall.

I thought I might have left it in the pocket of my jacket, but I hadn't.

I thought my husband must have taken my key with his.

I called him, he had left home 20 minutes earlier than me.

Fortunately, he answered my call.

"Do you happen to have my car key?"

"What? Really? Wait a minute. I'll call you back."

He called me back soon after.

"You're right. I have yours."

"Oh my goodness!"

"You can use the spare key."

"But you washed my spare key with the laundry before, right? It doesn't work!"

My car key has an "advanced key less entry & start system" function.

I could open the car door only by pushing the small button on the door without taking the key out of my bag, and I can start the engine only by stepping on the brake and pushing the start button.

Since the spare key was broken, I knew the normal key which needed to be inserted and turned was inside the key cover, but I had no idea how to start an engine.

I could open the door of the car using the normal key which I took out from the cover.

I tried to look for the hole where I can insert the key, but there wasn't any.

"OK. I will bring your key right now. You will be late for work today!"

"Really? But I am going to try to find how to start the engine when the battery in the key is dead. I will call you back."

I hung up the phone and looked for how to start the engine in the manual.

After a while, I found it.

I needed to set the key in the cover and step on the brake, then push the start button.

After the green lamp on the start button starts blinking, press the button with the key in upright position.

"I did it!"

The engine started.

I called my husband in a hurry.

He had already left his office, so we met up halfway at the parking area of the convenience store to receive my key.

Of course I was late for my work.

The latest convenience feature can be a difficult function when it is broken.

For example, the car automatic operating system is unacceptable for me.

If its controlling system brakes, I don't want to guess what might happen.

The day they didn't watch TV

I went to the library to borrow some books for my children yesterday.

I have continued it since my 6-year-old son was 1 year old.

We can borrow books for two weeks, so I usually go there twice a month.

Since my son can read books alone recently, I often borrow not only children's books but also some manga(comics) like Doraemon, Chibi Maruko-chan.

I borrowed manga of the feature film of Doraemon.

He was glad to find it on the bookshelf.

He did his homework quickly and started reading it after dinner.

My children like drawing very much.

My 5-year-old daughter was absorbed in drawing this yesterday:

She drew her friends and herself.

I know they never wear such kind of dresses and my daughter ( the leftmost girl) doesn't have a long hair in reality.

But it's not a big problem.

I like her imaginative and dreamful picture very much.

I am glad to be able to find how she enjoys her school life from the picture.

After all, we didn't watch TV at all yesterday.

But I like such a day.

Disappointment

I listen to the radio English conversation program on my way to work every day.

Yesterday's program was called "English Theater".

I listened to the reading of one of the famous O.Henry's short novel, "After Twenty Years".

Actually, I have read only "The Last Leaf" in his novels.

When I listened to it for the first time while driving, I was shocked because I could hardly understand it.

The readers who voiced the characters spoke in American English, which is more difficult for me to understand than British English.

I was disappointed with myself.

Before I went to bed,  I tried to read it aloud.

Even I looked at the textbook and read it aloud, it was still difficult to understand.

Fortunately, since there was a translation in the textbook, I could understand the story.

Why didn't I understand the story?

The answer is clear.

I  lack the vocabulary.

He describes the characters in the story very expressively using literary words.

At the very beginning of the story, he wrote:

"The policeman on the beat moved up the avenue impressively.

The impressiveness was habitual and not for show, for spectators were few."

Red words are what I couldn't understand quickly.

If I write this using words which I know,

"The policeman was walking on the street but nobody was there."

These are completely different!

I keenly felt my lack of vocabulary.

I have a long long way to go before I understand English without difficulty.

I started preparing to take TOEIC test recently.

I am considering taking the exam next March or April.

I got 780 points when I took the exam two years ago.

I would like to get more this time.

This is not a time to be depressed.

If I don't understand, I should study it more.

My free time is really limited but I will never give up.

When I feel sick

I am very busy with my work recently.

My work sift is until 4pm but I worked overtime until 4:35pm yesterday.

Since I thought I would not be in time to pick my children up, I called the children's house and the nursery school to inform them I would be late.

While I was driving, I started to feel sick and it gradually got worse.

When I arrived at the children's house, I had a strong headache and I almost threw up.

But I had to bear it because I also had to pick up my 5-year-old daughter to the nursery school.

We could come home at last.

After I took the laundry in, I told my children:

"I am going to get some sleep now. I feel sick. Finish what you have to do first, OK?"

I spread the futon in a Japanese-style room and went to sleep.

But I heard my children were talking.

My daughter said:

"I want to eat this!"

My 6-year-old son said:

"Are you sure that you can eat this? Did you ask mom?"

She said:

"Mom said I can eat this before."

"But it was before, right? You should ask mom now!"

I heard my daughter coming,

"Mom, can I eat this dried cuttlefish?"

"Yeah, OK."

I answered.

After that, my 6-year-old son came and said:

"I want to eat Coco-kun!"

Coco-kun is like cereal and we need put them on a plate and pour some milk on them.

"You can do it by yourself. Try it!"

I answered.

After a while, my son came again and said:

"Mom, I already had Coco-kun, but can I eat one more candy?"

"Think and deal with it by yourself! Please let me sleep!"

After I woke up, it was already 7:40pm.

As a Mom I should not get sick.

The living room was messy with my children's toys and my son's textbooks and notebooks.

I had to do much housework after I woke up,

Health must be your first consideration in whatever you do.

I'm home!

Since I worked yesterday, I asked my husband to make dinner.

I recommended that Nabe (hot pan) would be the best menu because it is very easy to prepare and we can get warm from it.

Recently it has been very cold and it gets dark aruond 5pm.

I came back home at 5:30pm yesterday.

When I was about to open the entrance door, I could smell something good.

I thought, oh yes, my husband is making Nabe

It warmed my heart.

Many father feel these kind of emotions when they come home.

"I am home!"

I entered our house.

My children were playing using my computer.

My 6-year-old son likes drawing pictures using Paint.

These are his works.

This is a Sinkansen (bullet train)!

This is a Christmas tree.

My 5-year-old daughter likes imitating me typing using MS-Word.

It is almost like an objectionable literature!

Temptation and destiny

Since my husband went to the farewell party of his staff last evening, my children and I went to Hama-zushi, one of the famous sushi-go-round restaurant yesterday.

Most of sushi cost 100 yen a plate.

We can choose not only sushi but also side dishes and dessert.

I found an attractive dessert coming on the conveyor belt that I have never seen before.

It was a strawberry cheesecake and it costs 200 yen.

The cheese cake was a limited time offer and if it runs out of stock they won't serve it again.

I told my 6-year-old son,

"I think it is better to eat two plates of sushi than the cheesecake which costs 200 yen for only one, right?"

I was like doing a monologue, so he didn't answer me.

The cake passed by in front of our table.

Next time it was coming on the conveyor belt, I told my son,

"I can't decide which is better, a cheesecake or sauteed clam with butter. Both cost 200yen. I think clam is better for my health but I also want to eat cheesecake. I can't decide!"

My son said,

"Which are you going to choose, cheesecake or clam? "

I couldn't decide and the cheesecake passed by us again.

Third time it was coming, I told my 5-year-old daughter,

"Can I eat the cheesecake?"

"Sure!"

She answered.

I said to myself,

"It is not good not to try what I want to do."

My son said,

"The destiny time. Ta-da-da-da!"

He sang "The destiny " from Symphony No. 5 of Beethoven."

Finally I took the plate of cheesecake and ate it.

It was yummy!

I couldn't wait, so I had taken a bite of the cheesecake before I took a photo of it!

Furthermore, I also ate clam sushi!

Apparently I can't put up with not eating yummy food.
