Nostalgic Pottery Path

My children and I visited my parent's house 2 days ago and stayed there one night.

My mother and we went to Tokoname pottery path yesterday.

Tokoname-city, which is my hometown, is famous for its pottery and it is one of the "Six Ancient Kilns of Japan".

The pottery path is the promenade where there are many factories of potteries which had been used before, and we can walk through many narrow alleys like a maze, see many potteries, and enjoy local foods in many restaurants.

These Ojizo-sama (Jizo; stone statue which is the guardian deity of the local area or the guardian of children) are made of pottery.

They had calm looks.

 Pottery raccoon dogs and owls.

A lot of Manekineko (Lucky cat).

My children tried ceramic painting.

This is my 7-year-old son's work.

He drew a dinosaur on the plate.

This is my 5-year-old daughter's work.

She drew a girl and hearts.

They enjoyed painting very much.

The workshop staff will bake the plates and send them to us next month.

I found the old post which was used when I was a child.

Such kind of post is rarely used recently.

I reminded me of my old days.

This climbing kiln had been used until 1974 and was designated as an important national cultural property in 1982.

I was playing around there when I was a kid.

But there is an enclosure around there now, so we can't enter into the enclosure.

Since it was during Golden Week, we had early lunch before the restaurant would be crowded.

It was really nice even though it was not so expensive.

We enjoyed walking the pottery path.

It was the place where I ran around with friends when I was a child.

It made me feel nostalgic.

  1. Hello Kumi-san,

It sounds like you had a lot of fun places to play when you were a child. I can't say that our postboxes warrant national heritage status. Though there are a lot of little red postboxes still scattered around. But as you said their use is declining as electronic means of sending messages is increasing. Also parcels which are larger items all now tend to be delivered by parcel delivery services such as the Royal Mail.

I have never tried making anything from clay to make pottery, I do not think that I would be very good at it, though I think it would be a fun thing to try.

Here is a list of some of the other issues found in the rest of the post:

    This line:
My mother and we went to Tokoname pottery path yesterday.

    Should be:
Together with my mother we went to Tokoname pottery path yesterday.

    Or:
We all went to Tokoname pottery path yesterday.

    Or:
My mother together with us went to Tokoname pottery path yesterday.

Reason: "My mother and we" sounds very odd "My mother together with us" would sound better.

I found the old (postbox/mailbox) which was used when I was a child.

Reason: Post on its own generally means wooden or concrete pillar in the ground (such as fence post, concrete post (of a wall) etc). Ironically when you refer to getting the mail from the mailbox/postbox you can just say I am getting the post, or I am going to get the mail, or I am going to post this letter.
