I want to take a bath with mom!

I wrote that my son and I have been suffering from epidemic conjunctivitis since last week.

We haven't recovered from it yet.

I especially had more serious symptoms than my 7-year-old son, I had swelling of the lymph nodes.

After going to my parent's house, my symptoms got worse.

My right eye was also infected with epidemic conjunctivitis and the swelling of the lymph nodes got worse.

I went to see a physician and he prescribed me some antibiotics.

After taking them, I started getting better.

Since I have been absent from work since last Thursday, I finally will go to work tomorrow.
I realized that to keep fit is really important.

I know I have a lack of exercise.

It is difficult to make time to exercise since I work, do housework, and take care of children, but I need to do it to keep fit.

Actually, my motivation of learning English had declined while I was feeling under weather.

To keep healthy is necessary to realize what we want to do.

Since we haven't recovered yet, my son and I can't take a bath with my husband and 6-year-old daughter to prevent infecting them  with epidemic conjunctivitis.

My husband had been on his summer vacation since last Sunday, but now he comes home late as usual.

It means that my daughter has to take a bath alone on weekdays.

"Do I have to take a bath alone?"

She asked me sadly.

"Yes. It is to prevent infection. If you infected, you also have to be absent from the nursery school for 2 weeks. You don't want to do that, do you?"

"Yeah, but it's scary to take a bath alone! I want to take a bath with mom!"

I wondered when on earth my children will be able to take a bath alone.

"OK. I will be at the wash room while you're taking bath. You can leave the door open, so you can see me. You will not be scared, right?"

I suggested this to her and she accepted my idea.

I told my children:

"You will want to take a bath alone when you turn 10 years old. It's normal."

"No! I love mom, so I want to take a bath with you forever."

My daughter said, she was almost in tears.

I laughed when I heard this.

I want my children to be independent, but I also feel that I will be lonely when they grow up.

It depends on each family, but many Japanese parents and children take a bath together.

In my case, I had taken a bath with my mother up until I was 12, but I didn't care that she sometimes took a bath with me.

Maybe it is quite different from other countries.

But I like the custom because taking a bath makes us relax, and the effect of it increases when I take a bath with my family.

I think it is one of the most relaxing times with my family.

  1. Hello Kumi-san,

In England in general parents do not take baths with their children past toddler ages (0 to 2 years) and after that we tend to bathe alone. Even then the parent doesn't tend to get in the bath with the child but be in the room to help clean the child and make sure they are safe. Plus often we do not have baths in houses but showers to save on water and the cost of heating the water. Still like you say bathing with your family is good for relaxation and bonding time.

I use the shower and the sink to keep clean now but as a child I liked baths. But I had to have them very hot so I don't think anyone else would have been very comfortable in a bath I had run.

Here is a list of some of the other issues found with the rest of the post:

    Part 1:

Reason: I am not sure of the meaning of the sentence above. Do you mean:

To stay fit we need to realize what needs to be done and then do it.

I suggested it to her and she accepted my idea.

Note: The above sentence is correct but is often also said as:

I suggested to her and she accepted my idea.

    Or:
I suggested this to her and she accepted my idea.

    I laughed to hear it.

I laughed when she said this.

    Or:

I laughed when I heard this.

Question: I am unsure how to interpret the sentence above. Did you mean to say that you and your mother took a bath together until you were 12 years of age? Or did you mean to say that you started taking a bath with your mother when you turned 12 years of age?

In the first case the sentence would be:

In my case, I had taken a bath with my mother up until I was 12, but I didn't care that she sometimes took a bath with me.

In the second case the sentence would be:

In my case, I had taken a bath with my mother when I turned 12, but I didn't care that she sometimes took a bath with me.

    This line:

    1. Hello Terry.
Thank you for a lot of corrections!

Reason: I am not sure of the meaning of the sentence above. Do you mean:

To stay fit we need to realize what needs to be done and then do it.

→ I rewrote the sentence like this:

To keep healthy is necessary to realize what we want to do.

      Does it mean clearer?

      The first one is correct.
The past perfect tence is really difficult for me.

      Thank you so much!

  3. Hello Kumi-san,

    Your rewritten sentence:

To keep healthy is necessary to realize what we want to do.

Is much clearer, the only change I would make is to add the word "it" before is:

To keep healthy it is necessary to realize what we want to do.
