The sports day was held at my 7-year-old son's elementary school yesterday.
It was a really busy day for me because I had to prepare lunch box for my all of family members and my parents.
I had to work overtime for one hour last Friday because we had a lot of customers, so I finished working at 5pm.
After that, I picked up my son and 6-year-old daughter then went to the supermarket to buy some groceries for lunch boxes.
After we came home, I did laundry, prepared dinner, washed dishes, then prepared some dishes for lunch boxes.
I wanted my children to go to bed by 9pm because they had to wake up by 6:30am next day.
But they were still playing together after 9pm, so I was irritated to see them.
"Look at the clock! It's already 9pm. Will you be able to wake up at 6:30am? It's sports day tomorrow! Go to bed right now!"
I scolded them, then they immediately went to bed.
I woke up at 4am and made the lunch boxes.
I finished making them at 7am.
I was really tired but glad that I finally finished them.
My husband went to his school to get a spot.
He was surprised that more than 100 people were already in line waitnig for the school gate to open.
Some people brought small tents.
When the entrance gate was opened by a teacher, he said:
"Everyone, please don't run! It's dangerous!"
But most of them rushed to get a spot.
My family and parents went to his school at 9am.
It was going to rain soon, so everyone hoped that the weather would hold out until the sports day finished.
Finally, it started raining in the early afternoon.
The teachers decided to postpone the rest of the programs until next Monday.
Children seemed to be disappointed, but we weren't because the teachers had already changed the order of the program efficiently, so the popular programs which parents wanted to see were already finished in the morning.
The happiest thing is that I finished my big task, making the lunch boxes!
Thank you(^o^) for reading this article!
Hello Kumi-san,
ReplyDeleteWell done on completing all your work on the picnic basket/lunch boxes. I hope you enjoyed the sports day and that it was worth all the work.
Here is a list of some of the issues found in the rest of the post:
Part 1:
Note: In your writing you use the word "lunch box". I was not sure weather you were meaning bento boxes or what we call a "picnic hamper/picnic basket". A picnic hamper is a box which contains a lot of food that you take outdoors and usually eat on a field or open air space. They are generally made for more than one person. If you meant to say picnic hamper/basket then please change all the corrections I made to "picnic hamper/picnic basket".
This line:
It was really busy day for me because I had to prepare lunch box for my all of family members and my parents.
Should be:
It was a really busy day for me because I had to prepare lunch boxes for all of my family members and my parents.
Reason: Changed "It was" to "It was a" as the filler word "a" was needed. Changed "lunch box" to "lunch boxes" as this needs to be plural in this case as you are preparing more that one lunch box. Changed "for my all of" to "for all of my" was is the correct word order.
This line:
I had to overwork for one hours last Friday because we had a lot of customers, so I finished working at 5pm.
Should be:
I had to work overtime for one hour last Friday because we had a lot of customers, so I finished working at 5pm.
Reason: I am assuming in the above line that you worked overtime. The other change I made was changing "one hours" to "one hour" as this is a single hour that you waited and so should not be plural. If you had waited multiple hours then that would have been plural:
Examples:
I watched a movie for one hour. (Correct)
I watched a movie for one hours. (Wrong)
I watched a movie for two hours. (Correct - Because multiple hours)
I watched a movie for two hour. (Wrong - Because multiple hours when being referred to in singular)

Reason: Changed "Can you" to "Will you" as this is something that will have to happen in the future. Changed "It's a" to "It's" as the "a" is not needed.

Hi Terry.
DeleteI always appreciate you very much.
Regarding to "lunch box",
I have never heard "picnic hamper", so I seached for the images in Google.
I found it was a little different from the image of lunch boxes.
Picnic hamper looked like rattan baskets, but lunch boxes which I mentioned are usually made from plastic, and we preare special lunch boxes for children on the sports day.
That's why I didn't change "lunch box" to "picnic hamper".
But thank you for your help, I learned someghing new.
Thank you so much!
Thank-you for letting me know. I was not sure myself so I wanted to make sure it was not a translation error.
DeleteWe often call boxes which are like large bento boxes you have "coolers". They generally have food or drinks in them that you wish to keep cool or fresh.
In any event all the different terms mentioned would be understood easily.
