I prefer shorter bangs!

My family went to the hair salon for families last Saturday.

My children and husband had their hair cut.

My 5-year-old daughter told me that she wanted to have her hair cut like her friend who has a very short bangs.

So I asked the hair stylist to cut her bangs short.

After she finished cutting, her bangs were so short she could see her eyebrows?

That night, I was so sleepy that I went to bed earlier than other family members.

I woke up early as usual yesterday.

My daughter woke up about 8am with my son.

When I looked at her, I thought her bangs had became shorter than before.

But my husband told me after he got up:

"She was cutting her bangs with sissors by herself last night. I didn't notice her doing it. "

I was so surprised to hear that and looked at her again.

Oh my goodness!

Her bangs are too short and jagged!
I asked her:

"Why did you cut your bangs by yourself even though you had your hair cut yesterday? Did you want to shorten your bangs more?"

"Well.... yeah... I just wanted to be like my friend."

She was about to cry.

"If you wanted to be like her, you should have told the stylist yesterday! I can't fix your bangs because I am not good at cutting hair, it might make it worse!"

"But you are pretty."

My husband tried encouraging her, but he couldn't stop laughing.

"Why are you so funny?"

He laughed and stroked her head

It will become her funny legend story,  she just wanted to be prettier!

  1. Hello Kumi-san,

Commiserations to your daughter on her bad hair day. It is an unfortunate lesson to learn about the improper use of scissors! Still a childs hair generally grows back very quickly. Plus I have seen videos on youtube of Japanese Pop Stars who write entire songs about having a short fringe.

Here is a list of some of the issues found in the article:

    This line:
My 5-year-old daughter told me that she wanted to have her hair cut like her frined who has a very short bangs.

    Should be:
My 5-year-old daughter told me that she wanted to have her hair cut like her friend who has a very short bangs.

    This line:
So I asked the beautician to cut her bangs short.

Note: I am not going to correct the above line because I am not sure of the customs of Japan but I will give you some extra information:

In England people who cut hair are called:
Barber (usually if the cutter is a man).
    Hair Dresser (Man or woman).
    Hair Stylist (Man or woman).
    Stylist (Man or woman).

    Example:

I went to the (Barber/Barbers) to get my hair cut.
The Barber cut my hair really quickly.
The Hair Dresser asked me the sort of cut I wanted.
The Stylist had been working at the salon for 10 years.

Next item, I know that in some countries (mostly America) they use the word Bangs to mean the hair that grows on the top front part of the head that will cover the eyes if not cut. In England and a lot of other places Bangs and called Fringes.

    Example:

I had not been to the Hair Dressers for a long time so my fringe was long.
My fringe was so long I could not see.

    This line:
After she finished cutting, her bangs became as short as all her eyebrows can see.

Question: In the above sentence do you mean:
After she finished cutting, her bangs were so short she could see her eyebrows?

    This line:
On that night, I was so sleepy that I went to bed earlier than other family members.

    Should be:
That night, I was so sleepy that I went to bed earlier than other family members.

    This line:
I woke up early as usual last yesterday.

    Should be:
I woke up early as usual yesterday.

    This line:
When I looked at her, I thought her bangs became shorter than before.

    Should be:
When I looked at her, I thought her bangs had become shorter than before.

    This line:
"She was cutting her bangs with a sisor by herself last night. I didn't notice about it at all. "

    Should be:
"She was cutting her bangs with scissors by herself last night. I didn't (notice her doing it/notice until it was too late). "

    This line:
"If you wanted to be like her, you could tell the beautician yesterday! I can't fix your bangs because I am not good at cutting hairs, it might become more terrible!"

    Should be:
"If you wanted to be like her, you should have told the beautician yesterday! I can't fix your bangs because I am not good at cutting hair, I might make it worse!"

Note: With the phrase "I am not good at cutting hair.". Even though there are multiple hairs to be cut when you want to say that you wish to cut hair you using the singular of hair not hairs. In fact most of the time the singular of hair is used in sentences even when referencing multiple hairs. You can almost always find a way to use hair rather than hairs.

    Examples:

I like the way my hair looks.
    I cut my hair.
I didn't like the way my hair was cut.
All the hair on my head was tangled.

    1. Thank you Terry for another correction!

I am interested in the Japanese pop stars you mentioned.
      Do you remember their name?
