What happened to him on Valentine's day?

It was a warm day as if spring has come yesterday.

The highest temperature around here was about 23 degrees Celcius (73.4 Fahrenheit)!

When our family went outside, it was so warm that we took off our jackets and changed into light cloths.

My children practiced riding a bicycle in the morning.

And my husband and I displayed Hina dolls in the afternoon.

We could display the Hina dolls one week earlier than last year.

And it was Valentine's Day yesterday.

It's a Japanese custom that is completely opposite from other countries, it is the day in which women give chocolates to men.

One of my 7-year-old son's classmate's a girl came to our house to give him chocolate which she made.

But since he wouldn't go to see her, my 5-year-old daughter received it from her instead of him.

My husband said:

"He might be shy."

My 5-year-old daughter said:

"I want to eat it!"

"Come on! Let's eat it together."

I told him, but he answered:

"No, I don't want to eat it."

"Why? You like chocolate, don't you? She went to the trouble of making chocolate for you."

"No, I don't like chocolate."

He answered in a bad mood and didn't eat it at all.

I wondered why he was so contrary and what happened to him.

When eating dinner, he said:

"I don't want to eat. I have a headache."

I took his temperature, it was 38.3 degrees Celsius (100.94 degrees Fahrenheit).

A fever again!

I understood why he didn't eat the chocolate, because he wasn't feeling well.

His temperature went up 39 degrees Celcius (102.2 degrees Fahrenheit) at 11pm.

He looked terrible.

When I touched him in the early morning, he was not so hot.

But since I didn't take his temperature, I am not sure if his fever has gone.

I really hope he will recover soon.

  1. Hello Kumi-san,

Sorry to hear you son still has his headache. I hope he recovers soon, then the only thing he will have to worry about is (spurned/rejected) schoolgirls when he returns to school :).

Here are a list of some of the issues found with the post:

    This line:
When our family went outside, it was so warm that we took the jackets off and changed into thin cloths.

    Should be:
When our family went outside, it was so warm that we took off our jackets and changed into light clothing.

Reason: When saying that you changed from thick heavy warm clothing to thin more warm weather type clothing you generally say light clothing in English and not thin clothing. Also cloths usually means rags that you use to clean dishes and do house cleaning with. When you mean material that you dress with or wear it is generally spelled clothes.

Question: Does the sentence above mean you displayed Hina dolls, but that displayed them one week earlier than the previous year?

    1. Hello Terry.
I am always grateful to you!

Question: Does the sentence above mean you displayed Hina dolls, but that displayed them one week earlier than the previous year?

The Hina dolls are usually put away in the box,

but we take them out from the box and display them like the photo only before the girl's festival.

    2. Hello Kumi-san,

      So the sentence:
We could display it one week earlier than last year.

      Could be rewritten as:
We displayed the Hina dolls a week before the girl's festival.

I hope I am interpreting correctly.
