Instead of the child care diary

It was the performance day at my 5-year-old daughter's nursery school yesterday, so I went to see her play.

I recorded the play of her class with a video camera.

We watched it after we came home in the evening.

First, we watched her play which they did yesterday.

Then we watched the play which my son was in when he 5 years old.

Because boys in her class were too active and some of them didn't sing and dance, so I wanted make it clear that that's the way boys around their ages behave.

The boys in my son's class were also too active like boys in my daughter's class.

It was very interesting to watch the past videos, we could compare nowadays with the past.

We also enjoyed watching videos which I recorded before.

Since writing a diary of my children's daily life was a hassle for me, I often recorded them with a video camera after they were born.

It was very funny to watch my son and daughter fights from 3 years ago!

My 5-year-old daughter has been hit by my son since she was born!

I sometimes send a DVD of our children to my parentsin-in-law who live far from here, so that they can know about our children's growth and daily events even if we can't go there once a year.

I thought it was good for us to record them with a video camera.

They liked watching themselves on TV very much.

And it keeps me from forgetting events from when they were young.

  1. Hello Kumi-san,

Another fun read. I was never very good at using a video camera, I would always record the wrong thing. Though they are a great time saver and are certainly quicker than writing a diary.

Here is a list of some of the issues found with the post:

    This line:
It was the performance day at my 5-year-old daughter's nursery school yesterday, so I went to see her plays.

Question: Was your daughter in more than one play or only a single play? If she was in one play then the sentence would be rewritten as:
It was the performance day at my 5-year-old daughter's nursery school yesterday, so I went to see her play.

    This line:
I recorded the play of her class by a video camera.

    Should be:

Question: Were you wanting to make things clear to your daughter? If so you may want to state that specifically.

    This line:
The boys of my son's classmates were also too active like boys in my daughter's class.

Reason: As far as I am able to determine your sentence above is grammatically correct but sound slightly strange.

And I can prevent forgetting my memories when they were young.

    Should be:
And I can keep my memories of when they were young fresh.

    Or:
And it keeps me from forgetting events from when they were young.

    1. Thank you for another help, Terry.
How to choose prepositions are still difficult for me.
I guess maybe it is like how to choose postposition in Japanese like は,が,を,の,に.

    2. What with the little I currently know of Japanese は and が particles I would say that yes it seems very similar in that it can be very difficult for non-native speaker to determine when to use them.

But at least as far as filler words/prepositions go, even English people are not really taught the grammatical rules of when to use them. We just know when they sound right.

The best way to learn them is through exposure to them. I don't know if you already do this or not but. It may help if you read English blogs to pickup the word order and the little prepositional and filler words placement, it may help a little with common expressions and word usages also.

Below is a list of award winning English Blogs of 2015, and by this I mean they are written in English, not that they are language teaching blogs. They are all very well written and use the English language in both very polite and casual styles. The advantage is that they are crammed full of all this little filler words. Which may help you a little:

All the blog links above were taken from this 2015 awards blog site:

Although the sites I listed would be good to learn English from, if they are not the sort of pages you like to read then it will not be much fun. So if you let me know the sort of blog topics you would rather read then I will see if I can find good English examples you can learn from.

      I try reading them.
      Thank you for your kindness!
