Fireworks display

Since my 7-year-old son's fever went down, my family visited my parents' house yesterday evening because the fireworks display was held near their house.

We were looking forward to it, but my son and I haven't recovered from epidemic conjunctivitis.

We were going to stay overnight there at first, but we decided not to stay overnight and go home after finishing watching the fireworks display.

We watched fireworks with my parents and my sister.

It was amazing!

You can hear that children who were sitting near us were so excited and shouted with joy in the video below.

I recall my memory of 10 years ago when I watched the firework display every summer.

It was about my father.

In August of ten years ago, he was diagnosed with stomach cancer by a doctor and he had to undergo the surgery.

Since he really wanted to watch the fireworks display, he applied for approval to sleepover at home to his doctor.

My father and mother were watching fireworks together without speaking.

I could see their long history as a couples and parents for me and my sister from their backs.

They must have hoped that they wanted to watch the fireworks display next year again.

If someone is sick, we will not able to enjoy it.

The fireworks display is a symbol of our family's happiness.

I do hope we will be able to watch it next year with all of my family members.

  1. Hello Kumi-san,

That was a very pretty fireworks display video, as you say the children certainly sounded as if they were enjoying it very much.

Family illness does make enjoying events such as those somewhat difficult though. Here is hoping that next year all is well.

Here is a list of some of the other issues found with the rest of the post:

    This line:
We were going to stay overnight there at first, but we decided not to stay overnight and go home after finishing fireworks display.

    Should be:
We were going to stay overnight there at first, but we decided not to stay overnight and go home after we finished watching the fireworks display.

    Or:

    Should be:

Reason: Removed "in his stomach" because it is not needed as you already stated it was stomach cancer that your father had so it can be implied that it was located in his stomach.

Reason: Changed "of" to "to" as this sounds more natural.

    This line:
They must have hoped that they wanted to watch the fireworks display next year again.

Reason: The sentence is ambiguous do you mean to say that your parents wished to watch the fireworks display again (when your father would hopefully be recovered) as they could not enjoy the fireworks while his was ill. Or that they were not sure if they would be able to see the fireworks together again in the next year?

    1. Hello Terry.
Thank you for your cooporation again!

It means that we (including my parents) were not sure if we would be able to see the fireworks together again in the next year because my father was suffered from cancer.
It is said that top of the Japanese cause of death is cancer.
If someone knows you are suffered from cancer, you will be prepared for death.
We really hoped that my father would recover it and we would like to watch the fireworks display again in the next year.
