Fireworks display

Since my 7-year-old son's fever went down, my family visited my parents' house yesterday evening because the fireworks display was held near their house.

We were looking forward to it, but my son and I haven't recovered from epidemic conjunctivitis.

We were going to stay overnight there at first, but we decided not to stay overnight and go home after finishing watching the fireworks display.

We watched fireworks with my parents and my sister.

It was amazing!

You can hear that children who were sitting near us were so excited and shouted with joy in the video below.

I recall my memory of 10 years ago when I watched the firework display every summer.

It was about my father.

In August of ten years ago, he was diagnosed with stomach cancer by a doctor and he had to undergo the surgery.

Since he really wanted to watch the fireworks display, he applied for approval to sleepover at home to his doctor.

My father and mother were watching fireworks together without speaking.

I could see their long history as a couples and parents for me and my sister from their backs.

They must have hoped that they wanted to watch the fireworks display next year again.

If someone is sick, we will not able to enjoy it.

The fireworks display is a symbol of our family's happiness.

I do hope we will be able to watch it next year with all of my family members.

Unforgettable Fireworks

My children and I came to my parent's house to go to the fireworks festival held near my parent's house yesterday.

I wrote about my hometown in past post ( http://a-o-j-m.blogspot.jp/2015/05/my-sweet-hometown.html ), it is famous for its pottery and it is one of the "Six Ancient Kilns of Japan".

And the pottery festival is held this weekend, and the fireworks festival is one of the big attraction of the event.

My children and I looked forward to watching fireworks very much.

I helped my 5-year-old daughter to wear "Yukata dress".

Yukata is like kimono, but it is different.

It is made of cotton and we can wear it easier than kimono.

We usually wear Yukata in summer.

Especially some of women wear yukata at summer festivals.

Yukata dress is the thing which is added small changes to normal yukata for a young child cutely, and it usually has a short hem, and it becomes like a skirt.

My parents saw and phrased her,

"Oh, you are really cute (kawaii)!"

She got shy joyfully.

My 6-year-old son was jealous of her a little because she was like a today's leading role, he teased her saying "She is annoying!" with smiling.

We went to the good place where only local people know for watching fireworks before it started.

It was near the sea and the international airport.

Since it was sunny and windy, we could see the beautiful sunset.

The fireworks were launched more than an average year.

The number of fireworks is proportional to the quality of economy because the fireworks festival is sponsored by the local companies and citizen.

It might be better than usual.

The firework was like a beautiful big picture on the black campus of the sky.

We could see a lot of Star mine than usual.

(*"Star mine" is to put many fireworks together and launch several hundred from dozens of continually and draw one theme. )

We were so excited to hear the lively big launching sounds and moved by its amazing beauty.

My son tried to count how many fireworks launched,

"40, 41, 42, oh, I can't count them, they are too many!"

Since we were near the launching place, we were able to see and feel powerful fireworks.

And we were also able to see a beautiful moon and many airplanes.

The sky competition of fireworks, moon, sea and airplanes were extremely beautiful.

Actually, I didn't want to go to the fireworks festival recently because it's always crowded and hot.

I worried whether I would not be able to be impressed with fireworks anymore.

The answer was "No", I was deeply impressed with fireworks.

My father also said,

"This year's fireworks were amazing. I was able to see beautiful fireworks with my lovely grandchildren. I am so happy. It will become my unforgettable memory. "

I thought this is the word of his greatest pleasure.

My parents are getting older and older, and the day I have to say good-bye to them will be sure to come someday.

The best memories of the life is like beautiful fireworks disappearing in an instant.

I also will not forget about yesterday.

We stayed overnight and we are going to go to the ceramic festival today.

My best memory during Obon vacation

I asked my family yesterday,

"What is your best memory during Obon vacation?"

We had Obon vacation from 8/10 to 16 ( Strictly speaking, my work started from yesterday).

"My best memory was going to the park! We could feel that autumn will be coming. The wind was blowing comfortably, you were playing actively, and we were looking at you two. That was very comfortable and made me happy."

(I wrote about this in past post "Signs of Autumn " → http://a-o-j-m.blogspot.jp/2015/08/signs-of-autumn.html )

My husband said,

"I agree. It was the only oppotunity that children could play outside."

But our children's opinions were quite different from ours.

My 6-year-old son said,

"Mine is to go to Sushiro!"

My 5-year-old daughter also said,

"Me too! Sushi was yummy! And we watched fireworks from our car!"

I didn't write about this event in my blog.

I went to the hairsalon to have my haircut last Friday.

Since I came back home about 5pm and I couldn't be bothered to make dinner, we went to Sushiro (one of the most popular conveyor belt sushi bar in Japan).

My son looked very hungry, he ate ten plate sushi including desserts.

It was his best record so far.

After we finished dinner, we found the fireworks which were set off from near our city on our way home.

So my husband stopped on the way and watched them for a while.

The best memory of family events is like a report card which children give parents.

Althouh parents spend a lot of money for family event, children often don't remember it.

It might be important for children that all family member is here and enjoy together.

Signs of Autumn

We went to the park where is a little far from our house yesterday.

An event was held in one of the facilities in the park, so we were going to visit there.

Since the park was very big, my children found a fun playground equipment on our way to the event place, they started playing.

I was not supposed to play outside, I didn't want to stay there long because it was hot.

But while we were outside, I could feel that wind was fresh and comfort.

It wasn't at the climax in the summer anymore, we could feel the sign of Autumn.

To play outside is best for children, but they can't play outside if it is too hot.

My husband and I were looking at my children who were absorbed in play.

It was so comfortable that I felt happy.

But we found thunderhead which is one of the symbol of summer.

It was reflected in the window of the building and was very beautiful!

On our way to parking, we heard the sound of "Tukutuku-boushi (meimuna opalifera)", a kind of cicadas.

We can hear their sounds from late summer, about the time of the end of Obon.

My husband told me,

"Oh, Tukutuku-boushi is singing! Summer is also nearing its end."

We stopped walking and listened its sound.

It is still hot, but summer will be ending little by little.

Good-bye Siro-kun, Hello Aka-kun

My family visited the car dealer because yesterday was scheduled delivery of my new red car.

( I wrote about the day we decided to purchase a new red car at my past entry. → http://a-o-j-m.blogspot.jp/2015/07/a-dilemma-on-buying-it-now.html )

I told my children,

"Today is the last day that we can spend time together with Siro-kun."

My 6-year-old son said,

"And we will say hello to Aka-kun!"

Siro-kun is a nickname of my white kei car.

(* Kei car is a unique Japanese category of small vehicles.)

And Aka-kun is a nickname of my new red car.

I bought the white kei car 8 and a half years ago.

My 5-year-old daughter was almost crying and said,

"But I want to stay with Siro-kun together forever.  How poor Siro-kun! It will be thrown away, won't it?"

When we told my son that my husband and I decided to purchase a new car, my son also said, "You mean, our white car will be thrown away,  won't it? I will feel lonely"

I told them,

"No, the car dealer staff will look for the next owner of our Siro-kun. I hope that they will be able to find a good person who likes Siro-kun."

I contined,

"Siro-kun and you two have been together since you were born, right? I can understand how much sad it is for both of you not to see our white car anymore. But our new partner Aka-kun will be waiting for us. Let's say good-bye to Siro-kun and say hello to Aka-kun!"

It was very interesting for me that my children and I have a same personality of valuing things and letting go of something really matters instead of finding something new.

After we got a new red car, we went driving.

It was comfortable to ride in, and it was very quiet inside the car.

It handled well.

My 5-year-old daughter fell asleep soon.

We had an early dinner and visited the aqurium.

Since it was a surprise for my children, they were so delighted.

The aquarium specially opens at night only during Obon.

We enjoyed feeding fishes and watching different sea creatures in the aquarium.

The night dolphin and sea lion show was very crowded but it was fantastic!

We had a very nice experience at the aquarium and the children felt glad about it, then we drove home with Aki-kun.

Dinner with three generation

My family visited my parents house last Monday evening.

My sister and brother in law also came and had dinner together.

All of our family visit my parents house twice a year, Bon Festival and New Year holidays and have dinner together.

My children are always shy when they meet their uncle and aunt after a long time interval, but they got used to them soon and behaved as usual.

Since my mother always order catered foods and they are always tasty, I was looking forward to eating them.

This time it was also delicious.

We enjoyed dinner together and had an animated conversation about my children and our good old days.

Especially my father was so glad to see his grandchildren, he seemed very happy.

After we finished dinner, we enjoyed sparklers together.

We stayed there one night.

Maybe it would be one of the best memories of summer vacation for my children.

Sunday Night Fever

One of our neighbor's family invited us to their home to play with sparklers together yesterday's evening.

Their daughter and her cousin's boy go to the same nursery school with my 5-year-old daughter.

So my children were so excited and they enjoyed sparklers together.

They were scared of fire of sparklers last summer, but they could play them safely yesterday.

After we finished, we went to the Bon Festival dance held in the park near my house.

Bon dance is the dance for holding a memorial service for the dead during the Bon period (8/13~15, but it's sometimes held in the beginning of August).

Everyone from adults to children enjoyed dancing.

But I knew that my children would not join in a large dancing circle.

Just as I expected, my 6-year-old son got absorbed in catching cicadas which were gathering at a strong light with another children.

He took out a cicada which entered the lantern and couldn't get out there.

Then older women who were dancing praised him and told him that he could get it.

Of course he grabed it for a while and he didn't dance.

Since I knew she likes to dance very much, I told my 5-year-old daughter, "Lets dance together!" .

But she answered,

"No, I am shy!"

She found her friend and started the game of tag.

After a while, my husband and I took my children and danced together only the last one song.

My children only got a bag of potato chips which the children association of our region gave them.

They said, "It was a fun night!" though they almost didn't dance.

I don't like cicadas!

Since my 6-year-old son wanted to go to the park to catch cicadas again, we went to the park a little far from our house today.

The park is bigger than the park where we usually go.

The temperature today was so high and we noticed that there were no people at the park.

The highest temperature is 35 degrees today!

I prepared our hats, my parasol, and the water bottle which I poured cold barley tea.

My son got absorbed into catching cicadas and my 5-year-old daughter rode a swing.

After that, we walked around a pond to look for cicadas.

He was not comfortable with the weather today and he was not in his mood to catch cicadas.

Then my daughter stepped on two cicadas which were on the road and they died soon.

He got mad at her and hit her.

"Oh no! Why did you step on them! I should not have come to catch cicadas! I don't like cicadas!"

He kicked poor dead cicadas.

She started crying.

I was about to scold him, but I didn't.

I thought they got tired because of the heat.

Needless to say, we came back home soon to take a rest.

What he is really into in now

I had a day off yesterday.

I took my 5-year-old daughter to the nursery school in the morning and my 6-year-old son went to the park next to the nursery school.

His purpose was cicada catching.

I wrote about it before ( → the post of 7/26  http://a-o-j-m.blogspot.jp/2015/07/cicada-catching.html )

Last Wednesday, he and I went to the park for cicada catching, his friend came there with his grandmother.

When they were going to pass through in front of the park, he noticed my son catching cicadas and came to him.

They enjoyed cicada catching together for an hour.

His friend asked me, "When will you come here?"

I answered,"I think we will come here in the morning of next Wednesday."

He said, "OK.  I will surely come here again. Let's play together again!"

But actually, my son went to the park everyday after he came home in the evening.

His friend and my son enjoyed catching cicadas again for an hour yesterday morning.

Friend's grandmother and I were talking together in the meantime.

Since it was too hot yesterday, his friend wanted to go home.

We said good-bye to them.

My son was going to still continue cicada catching.

I told my son,

"Let's go home! It is too hot to stay outside."

He accepted my proposal and we went home.

I told him,

" Please don't go to the park again in the evening. I have to make dinner. If we go, I will be surely tired!"

But he wanted to go to the park again as I thought.

I don't want him to go to the park alone because he is still young.

Many incidents like kidnapping, phantom killer, traffic accident, and so on have occurred in Japan.

I am still worried that he goes somewhere alone.

But I also think that I need to let him practice to go out alone and it needs to be a safety place at first.

I suggested him,

"Why don't you go to the park alone while I go to the nursery school to pick your sister up?

I will go to the park with her after that. I think maybe she will also want to ride a swing there so we will stay there until 4pm."

He said "OK! Can I go from now?"

He was glad and go to the park.

2 days ago, He wanted to go to the park again after we came home in the evening.

I told him,

"You can go to the park, but I can't go with you because I have a lot of things to do from now. Come back home until 5:30pm. If you can keep our promise, you can go there again tomorrow. But if you can't, you must not go there alone again."

He was able to keep our promise and came back home on time.

He loves cicada catching and I don't have the right to stop that he goes to the park.

He doesn't get tired of it though he does it every day (sometimes twice a day), but I can't go with him everyday because I have to do a lot of housework after I come home.

Fortunately, the park where he goes is very near from our house, so it may be a good opportunity to let him practise to go alone.

The Movinvg Eye

Fortunately, the fever of my 6-year-old son went down and he got well yesterday.

But we spent almost time at home yesterday (except cicada catching for 30 minutes!).

Since it was too hot yesterday, I turned on the air-conditioner in our living.

The air-conditioner which are installed in the living is very interesting.

It has a moving eye which has a high-performance sensor camera.

It is always moving and looking at the room until every corner.

It can find the place where the person is and air-conditions effectively.

It looks like a robot's eye!

I told my children about the eye yesterday evening.

" Can you see that eye? It is moving! Look!  It is looking at you!"

They didn't know about the eye, so they were very excited to see the eye was looking at them.

They tried to move around in the room and confirm whether if the eye moved together.

"Wow! It is a ghost! It is a Youkai! Very scary!"

They were so excited and running around the room for a while.

39.5 Degrees Celcius (103.1 Degrees Fahrenheit)

It is not the highest temperature yesterday.

It was my 6-year-old son's body temperature yesterday.

He told me yesterday morning,

" I have a sore throat. I also have a headache."

"Really?"

I touched his head but it was not hot.

I took his temperature but he didn't have a fever.

"Maybe you might feel tired because of the air-conditioner and too hot days recently. But you don't have a fever, so go to the children's house today."

I told him.

He said,

"No! I don't want to go! Please take me to the hospital!"

"But I can't take a day off easily because we work on the shift. If you feel sick, tell your teachers. I will pick you up."

I took him to the children's house then I went to work.

When I was going to have a lunch with my co-workers, the company's phone rang.

It was my son's children's house.

The teacher told me,

"Since he couldn't eat his lunch and he told me that he had a headache, I took his temperature, he had a fever of 38.1 degrees Celsius (100.58 Fahrenheit) now. Could you come and pick him up from now?"

I asked our leader to leave early and went to the children's house to pick him up.

After we came home, it was getting worse and worse.

I took his temprature, his fever was 39.5 Degrees Celcius (103.1 Degrees Fahrenheit)!

I made an appointment with pediatrics.

But he didn't want to go there because he had a severe headache and almost threw up.

I called the hospital and told them that we could not go there by the turn of his reservation.

I kept cooling his head with ice, but he couldn't sleep and looked in pain.

After an hour, I took him to the hospital.

He cried and said,

"It is too hot in the car! I have a headache!"

Yesterday's highest temperature was 38 degrees Celsius (100.4 Fahrenheit).

But his temperature was higher than that.

His weight is now 20kg.

He was too heavy for me but I had to carry him.

The doctor said,

"His throat is swollen. It's probably summer cold."

After we came home, I gave him antipyretics.

Then he could go to sleep at last.

While he was sleeping, I went to the nursery school to pick up my 4-year-old daughter.

He slept for 2 hours, then he woke up.

Medicine seemed to work, and his temperature had gone down.

Since he didn't want to eat, I made him drink water and take antibiotics which the doctor prescribed  for him.

He woke up before 6am in the early morning today.

He has still a slight fever, but he is fine now.

I am relieved.

Maybe he will be able to recover his colds today.

A Sultry Night

"A sultry night" is so-called the night which minimum temperature at night is more than 25 degrees Celsius (77 Fahrenheit) in Japan.

I used the air-conditioner setting a timer for 2 hours and after it was turned off, I opened the windows and used a fan. I've done this routine 'till last year.

But this year, I can't stand the heat and I can't sleep well.

Children also seem not to be able to sleep well, they roll around and often bump into me and my husband when they are sleeping.

We can't sleep well even more.

So now I leave the air-conditioner on setting at 28 degrees Celsius (82.4 Fahrenheit) and use a fan together during the night.

By doing this, we can sleep well more than before.

But last night, I was kicked by my 6-year-old son many times.

I guess it was only because he tossed around in my sleep.

Anyway, using the air-conditioner costs a lot of money, but I can't help it.

The Parent's Duty

I went to the summer festival which was held near my house with my children yesterday evening.

I heard from a friend of mine that it won't be crowded if we go before 5pm, so we reached there by 5pm though it was still hot.

Since my children were looking forward to this festival, they were so excited to hang around rows of stalls .

I gave them allowances specially, and they bought toys, french fries, shaved ice, fried chicken, and soft drinks.

They were excited every time they met their friends and played together for a while.

We spent for about 2 hours there.

They said, "It was fun! I want to go again!"

As for me....

To tell the truth, I don't like crowded places.

I liked to go to the summer festival before, especially it was one of my biggest fun when I was a child.

But now, to go to the summer festival makes me tired.

Because it is hot and humid, and everything is very expensive but of course children want to buy something so I have to spend a lot of money though they are not so yummy.

And I have to talk with my children's friends' parents even if I am not familiar with them.

Since I am not a sociable person very much, to look out for other people all the time often makes me tired.

But I really understand that children love festivals and they were looking forward to going there very much.

If I were 10 years younger, I could enjoy summer festivals with my children!

I try to think that it is the parent's duty.

The Reason Why The Swimming Lesson Was Canceled

My 6-year-old son goes to the children's house while I go to work during the summer vacation.

There are some teachers there, and he plays with other children, does their homework, reads books, draws pictures, and sometimes can watch TV for a while.

I pick him up after my work.

During July, they can go to school in the afternoon to join the swimming lessons.

I got an e-mail from my his elementary school yesterday.

It was the notice of pool class cancellation.

Because the weather forecast said that the risk index of heatstroke will become "Dangerous" in our city in the afternoon, so teachers gave priority to children's safety.

I was so surprised to read it.

When I was a child, the swimming lesson had never been canceled due to the high temperature.

We go into the swimming pool because it is hot, don't we?

The highest temperature was 35 degrees celsius here yesterday. (about 95 degrees fahrenheit).

Most customers of our company said,

"Oh, it is too hot today! It is very cool and comfy! here." when they come into our company because the air conditioner always works well.

It must be one of the greenhouse effects.

I am worried about what will happen to the earth in the next generations.

The summer gift which I am glad to get

We recieved a summer gift from my brother-in-law 2 days ago.

It was an assortment of peaches!

They are packed carefully because they are easy to be damaged.

I like fruits very much but I rarely buy a peach because it is expensive.

I was very glad to get them.

Since we live near a grape-producing area, we send them to him and other relatives every summer.

If they are glad, we will be also glad.

My grandma's favorite recipe

When I visited my parents house with my children last Sunday, my mother gave me boiled whitebait(little white fishes in the photo below) that which were given by someone to them as a summer gift.

Since they go bad quickly, I made two dishes using them.

The dish on the right side is seasoned cucumber mixed with whitebait and dressed with vinegar and soy sauce.

The other one on the left side is seasoned grated radish and with boiled whitebait dressed with vinegar, sugar and soy sauce.

Seasoned grated radish is my grandma's favorite recipe.

Since I like her very much, I used to visit her house and take her to go shopping, lunch, and so on.

When I visited her house, she used to eat it.

It is suitable for summer because vinegar is used and it tastes plain and light.

I also like it very much.

She passed away when she was ninety-six years old.

I somehow felt nostalgic when I eat this kind of dish.
