What is the most important?

The marathon meet was held at my 7-year-old son's elementary school yesterday.

He told me yesterday morning:

"I don't want to run..."

"I understand. When I was a high school student, I had to take part in the marathon meet at school. I really didn't like it. But you will not have to practise running after it. Do your best!"

I didn't go to see him because I was busy for my work.

His friend's mother informed me by e-mail that he came the 21st.

After we came home, my son showed me a small piece of paper and said:

"I was in the 20th position when I ran for practise 2 days ago. I dropped one place."

He was disappointed.

His rank and time were written in the paper.

I told him:

"But, look! Today your time is 40 seconds faster than yesterday's! Isn't that something? I know marathon is really hard, but you did a great job!"

I hugged him, and he smiled at me.

I think winning is not important.

What's important is that you do your best and you are better than your were yesterday.

Campared to last year

The school concert was held at my 5-year-old daughter's nursery school yesterday.

Her class sang three songs, and played one song using tambourines, bells, and triangles.

When stage curtains opened, she looked a little nervous, but when she found me, she smiled and shook her hand.

Other boys and girls were same as my daughter, they looked a little nervous at first, but they seemed to be glad when they found their family in the audience.

They did very well.

When I picked my 6-year-old son up from the children's house, I told him about his sister's school concert.

He said,

"I want to watch the video!"

I always bring our video camera and record the school event.

The video festival started at 5:30pm.

They watched today's video first, and after that, they wanted to watch last year's school concert video.

While watching it, I was surprised that I found a lot of thier growth in the video.

For example, some boys were weaping and some girls are squirming with embarrassment in my daughter's class students.

I told her.

"You and your classmate did very well! You didn't hesitate, you could sing loudly and stately. Good job!"

She was glad to hear that.

A school concert

We went to my 6-year-old son's elementary school to see the school concert yesterday.

The first grader sang two songs and played instruments together for one song.

They used a lot of instruments like castanets, tambourine, triangle, bell, wood block, keyboard harmonica, glockenspiel, xylophone, big drum, snare drum, cymbals, piano, and organ.

My son played a glockenspiel.

He looked nervous at first, but he did well.

They were the youngest in the school, they were cheerful, energetic, and still adorable.

After the first grader, we watched the fifth grader's performance.

Of course they were older than first grader, sang and played better.

Especially their ensemble was excellent.

I thought their teacher took the great effort to encourage them.

Last September, the sports day was also held in the school and the students could have a good opportunity to unite and work together.

Those who are good at sports could contribute to their class.

This time, they could experience to do their best with classmates again.

Those who are good at music could show their well-prepared performances.

These events will be their fond memories in the future.

And they will learn pleasure to try hard towards the same aim together.

The sports day

The sports day was held at my 5-year-old daughter's nursery school.

It was cloudy, but it wasn't hot and cool, a very comfortable day.

I invited my parents.

She participated in a foot race, a dance with class mates, a race which a parent and a child play together, and so on.

She was smiling throughout the sports day.

My 6-year-old son also participated in the sports day at the nursery school last year.

Since he entered the elementary school, only she participated in the sports day this year.

In other words, today's main heroine was herself.

I think she was glad that all of family members flocked together to root for her.

I met a friend of mine there and she told me,

"Your daughter's dance was very good!"

I told my daughter about it.

She was very glad to hear that.

There are two things that I was impressed.

First, when I looked at the 2/3-years-old children's dancing and foot race, I thought they were so adorable just because they were little.

My children already grew up and passed through that age.

I recalled when they were 2 or 3 years old and realized that they have really grown.

Next, I was surprised that a lot of fathers participated in the races which a parent and child play together, the number was more than mothers.

I don't have memories that my father came to my sports day when I was a child

I think it is very good that fathers take part in children's events.

I could see a lot of happy smile of parents and children during the race.

Of course, my daughter and husband looked they were enjoying it very much.

My 6-year-old son shouted her name during the foot race.

His voice was so big that teachers were laughing at him.

The sports day ended at noon.

It was easy for me because I didn't have to make lunch box like my son's sports day.

We went to the famous belt-conveyor sushi bar for lunch.

I reserved a table at 12:45pm, but the parking area was too crowded to park our cars.
We needed to wait for parking our cars about 20 minutes.

I expected that the restaurant would be very crowded because all of nursery schools in our city held a sports day yesterday morning.

But I couldn't expect that we couldn't park there.

Japanese people love sushi, especially the belt-conveyor sushi bars are very popular among families like us.

I discovered my son's growth twice

Yesterday was the performance day of my children's nursery school.

My mother and I went there to see their plays.

My 4-year-old daughter's class played "The Giant Turnip".

All of her classmates were very cute and cheerful.

Some of them were fidgeting, and others were so nervous and they began to cry.

My daughter acted the role of a mouse.

Three or four students acted the same roles and they spoke their part together.

My 6-year-old son's class played "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz".

They had their own part, and each of them spoke their parts one by one.

They made their costumes and they choreographed by themselves and teacher helped them.

They set the stage alight with their energetic performance.

I forgot that I was watching the performance of my son's class, and I was so spellbound by the story.

I could find not only my son's growth but also his friend's.

I was really impressed that one of his friend who was crying during the performance 2 years ago played Dorothy lively!

I was deeply moved that everyone didn't hesitate to act their role.

One of his friend came to our house and she gave him chocolates she made yesterday's evening.

It was the first time that he received a chocolate from his friend for Valentine's day.

I realized that they were growing step by step.

Maybe he was shy, since he wouldn't accept it, so my daughter received it saying "Thank you!" instead of him.

But he told her after his friend went home, "It's mine! You can't eat them!"

It goes without saying that she cried bitterly!

(After a while, he gave her a chocolate and she smiled immediately.)

An impressive concert at the nursery school

The concert was held at the nursery school yesterday, so my mother and I went to watch it.

Usually there are three grades in Japanese nursery school.

My 4-year-old daughter is in the first grade, and 5-year-old son is in the third grade.

My daughter's class sang 2 songs and played a tune in concert.

They were still young, the principal told the audience " Please shake your hands if you find your child, or they will ease their tension".

We shook each other's hands with a smile.

When they sang the fun song, there were some children ended up jumping.

There were also some children who were nervous and couldn't sing.

My daughter sang merrily although she looked shy.

They were still very young and cute!

My son's class presented 6 songs.

Three of them were played by keyboard harmonicas, one of them was a song and a tune in concert, one of them was a song with sign language, and the last one was a song.

I was especially impressed by their attitudes

At first, they looked nervous, they didn't smile though their parents or grandparents shook their hands, they kept serious looks.

But according to my son, they were told by their teacher "do seriously, do not playfully".

Everybody sang and played eagerly.

I know their usual attitudes, so I was impressed by the differences.

The highlights of the concert were the tune in concert and a song with sign language.

My son played the keyboard harmonica.

He practiced it at home many times.

He could play it well, and other children were also well done!

The principal said that they used all instruments in the nursery school, a big drum, a snare drum, cymbals, bells, castanets, tambourine, xylophone, glockenspiel, wood blocks, keyboard harmonicas, and the teacher played the piano.

Their performance was very powerful and impressive.

I was about to cry with my deep emotion.

A song with sign language was excellent!

I was surprised that they could remember it in short term.

I was deeply impressed that I felt their growth.

Most of mothers were recording videos, so they couldn't clap.

But we gave a generous applause to them when they finished their performance.

After they came back home, my son told me "I was so tired today because I did my best."

I could understand his word well.

The sports day

It was a nice weather yesterday.

The sports day was held at my children's nursery school as scheduled.

My daughter was in the two years old class last year.

Since they couldn't form a line,  they did the warming-up exercises in the circle that was drawn on the ground.

But this year, they could form a line admirably!

My son used to be a boy who didn't try things that he couldn't.

For example, he didn't ride a tricycle when he was 3 years old.

He didn't want to try it because he was scared of failure.

But now, he had tried to do forward upward circling on the horizontal bar many times, and finally he could become to do it.

After that, he practiced it every day, and he showed it to the audience 3 times yesterday.

I will never forget his smile full of confidence.

At the interclass relay race, my son's class lost the lead, but anyone didn't give up and ran at full power.

I was moved that they did their best.

We went to the conveyor belt sushi after the sports day.

It goes without saying that we had to wait at the restaurant because it was so crowded with the families that attended the sports day!
