His "Randoseru" finally arrived!

My 6-year-old son's "Randoseru" finally arrived at home yesterday!

Since he will enter the elementary school in April, we already ordered it last August.

It is a back pack made of leather.

Elementary school children put text books into it and carry them to the school.

(If you know the Japanese anime "Doraemon", you can see the children carrying them.)

I was so impressed to look at the Randoseru because it meant that he would become an elementary school student soon.

The time passed so quickly.

I feel as if  he were born only a few days ago.

As for my son, he looked not so happy.

I thought the reaction was just like him.

He has a character that he doesn't express his happy feeling straightly.

In fact, it resembles his father's character.

It was funny for me.

Devils out! Fortunes in!

Yesterday was the day of  "Setsubun".

We have a custom to eat "Ehoumaki"(rolled sushi) at the day of Setsubun.

As far as I remember, this is quite a new custom about 18 years ago.

When I was a college student, I worked at sushi shop for a part time job.

A sushi chef heard about the custom from his friend, so he decided to make and sell them.

(According to the Wikipedia, it is said that "Ehoumaki" was spreaded by Seven Eleven Japan in 1998.)

When we eat "Ehoumaki", we face to the side of which we believe to be lucky this year (it was west south-west) and remain silent while eating and hopes for the good things to come for the whole year.

We usually eat rolled sushi on ordinary days and only eat the whole ehoumaki in celebration of setsubun.

My children kept talking to me so I couldn't keep silence.

My 4-year-old daughter didn't want to eat "Ehoumaki" because she didn't like raw tuna, so I cut a cucumber lengthwise and gave them to her.

Since she likes cucumber, she had it like eating "Ehoumaki".

After we finished dinner, we did the soybeans throwing ceremony.

We acted devil and fortune in turns, especially my 6-year-old son acted as the devil very well!

It turned out that the devil in him would not get out from the room soon, so we had to throw beans for more than 5 minutes.

If we finished throwing beans, we had to gather and throw them to his devil again.

It was not easy to get out the devil from our home.

We enjoyed Setsubun but I got very tired.

Furoshiki of February

I display "Furoshiki" at the entrance of my house.

Furoshiki is a square cloth and it is usually used to wrap something to carry them.

But since I like the nice illustration, I decided to decorate them (I bought twelve furoshiki to replace them each month).

February is the illustration of "Setsubun".

(* Setsubun : from the yesterday's entry→ http://a-o-j-m.blogspot.jp/2015/02/devil-and-fortune.html )

We can see two "Oni(devil)", a "Fuku(fortune)", beans to throw to "Oni", "Ehoumaki (Rolled sushi to eat at night of the day of Setsubun)", and many plum blossom which bloom in February in furoshiki.

I look forward to replace every month!

Devil and Fortune

Our family went to Onsen (hot spring) yesterday.

The onsen was a public bath called "Super Sento" which has several kinds of baths like open-air bath, bubble bath, medicated bath, sauna, and so on.

My husband and son went to the men's section, while my daughter and I went to the women's section.

We were able to relax.

A staff gave my children a Devil and a Fortune mask because "Setsubun" will come soon (Feb.3).

Setsubun is known as the last day of winter in Japan.

We throw beans to bad luck (devil) to drive out devil and call in good luck (fortune) in a house at the day of Setsubun.

My children were glad to get and wear the mask!

This photo is devil (Oni).

This photo is fortune (Fuku).

My daughter resembles "Fuku", so it was very funny for my husband and I to see her wearing the mask of  it!

Free trial of Electone lesson

My 4-year-old daughter and I attended the free trial of Electone lesson of YAMAHA yesterday.

Since her brother already goes to the YAMAHA music school, so she also had been wanting to learn it.

During the trial lesson, she seemed to be satisfied with it.

The time that she can play the Electone has finally come!

She was a good listener of the teacher, and she answered teacher's question actively.

When the teacher asked children to come near the piano, she went there first.

And she sung a song happily.

I was surprised because her behavior was opposite from my son's when he was 4 years old.

He was so shy that he didn't want to go near the piano and sing a song.

He told me "Because I am shy!"

But he grew up and now he can sing and play in front of other students.

I found out that they have a big difference when it comes to their behavior specially when it is in front.

Applying for the clubs for after school activities for children

I went to the city office yesterday to apply for after school activities club for children for my 6-year-old son

I feel troublesome when I fill out such kind of the application form but I had to do it.

He will enter the elementary school in April.

Since I work, he will stay at the children's center after he finishes school and during the spring, summer, and winter vacation.

I assume that we may be qualified to join the club.

When the elementary doesn't provide their school lunch, I will have to prepare his lunch box.

As of now, he can have the school lunch as he goes to school everyday, I guess I will be busier than now when my son will be in elementary grade.

My concern is that I hope he will be used to his new environment as he enters grade school in the next school opening.

Dancing night!

I had learned the Electone since I was 4 years old but I stopped learning before I started working.

So I can play it with appropriate accompaniment if I listen a easy song a few times.

I wanted to play "Over the Rainbow" by the Electone for my 6-year-old son because his class will act the "Wonderful Wizard of Oz"at the recital which will be held on February.

After I played it, I wanted to search the song at the website.

Electone can connect the internet and we can search the musical scores and datas of timbre and rhythm at the website.

It is awsome that we can listen to sample sounds and arrangements of the part of songs for free.

I searched "Over the Rainbow" but I was not able to find it.

But instead of it, I found my favorite proffesional Electone player's performance data, so we listened to it.

It was "Friend like me" from Aladdin (Disney film).

Since it was up-tempo and upbeat number, I couldn't help dancing.

Then my 4-year-old daughter also started dancing imitating me, and my son also joined us.

We just made it up as I go, but it was very fun!

We enjoyed unexpected dancing very much.
